4 Things I Love About Leo Carrillo Ranch | Carlsbad Family Photographer

Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad is an absolutely fantastic spot for family photography sessions in the San Diego area. Hidden down in a Carlsbad canyon, this gem of a location features a unique blend of architecture and natural scenery. It offers plenty of variety for photography, plus lots of fun spots for kids and families to play and explore. I can’t wait to bring my own family here.

Here are 4 things I love about Leo Carrillo Ranch, including a few of my favorite moments from a recent family session at the historic park. 

1. Historic Spanish Buildings
   Stepping into the ranch feels like stepping into a piece of California history. The hand-crafted adobe buildings, hacienda, cabana, stable, barn, and more are full of charm. 
   

2. Scenic Nature and Landscaping
   The natural landscaping and setting of the ranch perfectly complements the structures. The lush greenery was especially pretty when I photographed this session in the golden hour before the sun went down behind the hills. 
   

3. The Blue Door
   While I love all of the architecture at the park, this blue door is a particular favorite of mine. It gives pictures a fun, whimsical pop of color. 
   

4. Peacocks!
   It was such a fun surprise to learn that peacocks roam the grounds of Leo Carrillo Ranch. We had a blast watching them and their gorgeous feathers!
