Family Portrait Session at Redwood Grove, Los Altos

One of the things that I love most about family photography is getting to watch kids grow and change year after year. I always look forward to seeing repeat families. How tall will their kids be now? Who will be missing more teeth? What are their favorite books this year?

This was the second time I’ve gotten to photograph the V Family, and I was so happy to see them!

We met at Redwood Grove Nature Preserve in Los Altos, which is one of my favorite spots for family sessions. Tucked away in the middle of a Los Altos neighborhood, it features amazingly tall redwood trees, wooden bridges, and a few easy hiking trails. It’s a fantastic spot for families and kids who love playing and exploring in nature. If we’re lucky, we’ll find water in the creek, and maybe a few banana slugs along the way.

Redwood Grove is also a really good option for families who need a session earlier in the day than the traditional “golden hour” before sunset. Because the redwoods are so tall, it’s perfect for shooting when the sun is high in the sky. After sessions at Redwood Grove, I always encourage families to take a short walk down the trail to popular Shoup Park. It’s a great post-session reward, and a fun way to continue the fun family time you’ve enjoyed during our session.

Here are some of my favorite images from this Family Portrait Session. Enjoy!
